The creative adult is the child who survived

“It was not fun to be me in between ideas or projects”

– Steven Spielberg

I totally get what Spielberg is saying in this quote.  My creativity has been on hiatus since becoming a father, and whilst fatherhood is the greatest joy I have ever experienced, I have missed my creative side. Really the hiatus has been about 4 years with university life.

Just this week I have had the capacity to return to my creative self, and I am currently deep in an edit for a project I am working on. University certainly equipped me with great technical and academic skills, but it certainly designed out my authentic creative self… you know, making stuff for fun! I felt the constraints of the archaic university system. Seeking the approval of strangers who were mostly unhappy in their jobs was tough at my age. I believe in life the only approval one should need is that of oneself. Even if you are making something for someone else, firstly you need to be happy with it.

Being a father has just fuelled my imagination and inspired me to be more creative!

Picture: The greatest love in my life (assistant editor) and possibly the next Kathryn Bigelow!

I will never share her face on the web… her beauty will break it!
